July 1  Saw “Napoli, Brooklyn” by Meghan Kennedy at the Laura Pels Theatre. It is based upon a real-life disaster, the surprise staging of which, is mind shattering! However, the story line has a surfeit of themes added; religious brain-washing, the effect of a bullying husband and father and lesbian freedom. None of these is fully convincing in spite of the excellent acting of the cast.

Police activity and Cooper Hewitt

Three men were questioned and searched for over an hour by police jumping from unmarked cars. The suspects’ cars were driven away by the police after they themselves were handcuffed and taken away in police cars. I took this shot from my balcony. A little too far off for great detail but it is an indication of the excitment surrounding our building–what with the neighbouring building about to collapse and Starbucks being blown up!

The Cooper Hewitt museum garden is a favourite place for members to sit and read or paint at this time of the year. It has a small cafe. I sometimes take sandwiches and spend the whole day there if the weather is fine.
