June 13 Picnicked on The Great lawn in central Park to the music of The New York Philharmonic led by James Gaffigan. Great program with spectacular fireworks after the concert. The concert included two pieces composed by students from its education program — remarkable works (Bernstein style) from composers  11 and 12 years old respectively! They took their bows from the stage!

NY Day – Random shots at the St. Patrick’s Day parade

Very cleverly, I found myself a strategic position above the crowd on Fifth Avenue, sat myself down on a tree stump and waited in relative comfort for the parade to pass through the patch of sunlight at the corner of 87th street. But, the best  laid schemes of mice and photograpers gang aft agley; the sun didn’t come up fast enough to light Fifth Avenue and the parade turned into 87th Street, never passing through my little patch of good lighting!

NYPD Green

The Army was in the forefront . . . . .

. . . . . with some very strange weapons

. . . . and so was the Mayor. No visible weapons though!

The Army were allowed to bring their pets

Comparing notes?

Drums and pipers stir the hearts

. . . . . .

The pets brought the Policemen

Families marched too!

. . . . and needed maintenance on the way.

Great splashes of color

Piper's reflections

What happened?

. . . and who are all these gentlemen with blue and white striped ties?
