November 30. Susan, Christine and I saw two of three new Italian plays at the Cherry Lane theatre. I actually thought I had booked the third offer which was a Pirandello revival but we were all glad that we did not miss “The Journey I Never made” and “Story of Love and Soccer”. Both excellently translated and powerfully acted. The first is a thought provoking and somewhat unsettling portrayal of the current social turmoil and the second is modern thriller about corrupt sport and the triumph of evil over good. We were able to chat with one of the actors about the plays after the show. Before the show we ate lobster and oysters at the  “Fish” restaurant which was only two blocks from the theatre!

Atlantic City Revisited – death on the beach

The car needed an outing after a winter perched on its elevated parking platform and a drive to AC  seemed like  the ideal place. Not too far away, and Ethel could indulge herself at the black-jack table while I strolled up and down the Boadwalk. The Casino businesses are not thriving. Some of them are looking sadly short of customers and the lack of revenue seems to be affecting the maintenance of the municipal facilities. There is more garbage on the beach than I have seen for years and the winter storm damage is not being repaired in a hurry.

The Taj Mahal is still a wonder--but pieces of the gilt are beginning to drop off the walls!

Winter storm damage. Many of the beach access steps have been washed away

The gulls are optimistic, but they have had a long wait this year

Surfboarding is free!

Lest we forget--there is a fine memorial on the boardwalk

Comfortable shopping--no crowds to fight

Fallen visitor. From far-off lands maybe and overwhelmed by the journey?

But the cats thrive. Their "Meals on wheels" has arrived
