July 1  Saw “Napoli, Brooklyn” by Meghan Kennedy at the Laura Pels Theatre. It is based upon a real-life disaster, the surprise staging of which, is mind shattering! However, the story line has a surfeit of themes added; religious brain-washing, the effect of a bullying husband and father and lesbian freedom. None of these is fully convincing in spite of the excellent acting of the cast.

Tunnellers’ Progress

The Second Avenue Subway report. The drilling head is now more than  1100 feet into the rock– I calculate that it is just about level with Ethel’s apartment at 87th Street!  Service pipes and cables are being rerouted at each Station site. Poor Second Avenue, it all looks such a mess and pessimists feel that it will be never-ending.

Marking out where NOT to drill

Busy day!

Between 20 and 30 trucks such as this one are loaded from the elevator machine each day

. . . . this one is being loaded from the hopper as we speak!

And this a view of the supply hole showing the beginning of the tunnel and the tracks for the hauling equipment about 60 feet down
