July 1  Saw “Napoli, Brooklyn” by Meghan Kennedy at the Laura Pels Theatre. It is based upon a real-life disaster, the surprise staging of which, is mind shattering! However, the story line has a surfeit of themes added; religious brain-washing, the effect of a bullying husband and father and lesbian freedom. None of these is fully convincing in spite of the excellent acting of the cast.

NY Day – Columbus Day Parade

The Columbus Day parade this year seemed to be very much affected by the economic downturn. I chose myself a strategic perch on 85th Street only to discover that most of the parade was turning off on 79th! I was not alone,  a number of camera-carrying visitors were asking “Where’s the Parade?”.   The politicians were getting the lions share of  attention  by the Press but I missed them. Here are a few pictures I thought worth posting:

A much-needed reminder this year

Hair-do

One-eyed and cracked but still able to enjoy the day

After the parade, I popped into the Met Museum then wandered back to Second Avenue:

A favourite view in the Met--The Spanish courtyard

Complicated machine for drilling and inserting the long freezing pipes into the unstable rock. Notice the unorthodox style of hard-hat!
