July 1  Saw “Napoli, Brooklyn” by Meghan Kennedy at the Laura Pels Theatre. It is based upon a real-life disaster, the surprise staging of which, is mind shattering! However, the story line has a surfeit of themes added; religious brain-washing, the effect of a bullying husband and father and lesbian freedom. None of these is fully convincing in spite of the excellent acting of the cast.

Tunnellers reach a milestone

At an underground ceremony last week, which I would have dearly liked to have attended, the tunnel drilling machine broke through the rock into the station space at 63rd street and completed its mission. Both east and west tubes have now been drilled and the machine is going to the last resting place of TDM’s.

Little time is being wasted by the groundhogs–The heavy equipment is already being brought back to the access hole at 92nd street and lifted out to waiting flatbed trucks. And, good news for us, the 4-storey debris elevator in front of the Waterford is being dismantled!

Battered veterens about to be put out to pasture

Dismantling the elevator

After two years, tenants of the Waterford will not be sorry to see it go
