July 1  Saw “Napoli, Brooklyn” by Meghan Kennedy at the Laura Pels Theatre. It is based upon a real-life disaster, the surprise staging of which, is mind shattering! However, the story line has a surfeit of themes added; religious brain-washing, the effect of a bullying husband and father and lesbian freedom. None of these is fully convincing in spite of the excellent acting of the cast.

July 4th Fireworks- partial view

Since the Macy’s firework display was moved to barges on the west side, we haven’t seen much of them but we were persuaded to go up to the Waterford roof to see it this year. 40,000 shells were fired off and the display must have been spectacular for those spectators with a clear view such as the people at the top of the building which obstructed our line of sight. Here are a few pictures:

This is our favourite view of Manhattan’s fireworks. And it it available with cloud variations all year round.

    • Thank you, Valerie. At great sacrifice, Ethel climbed two flights of steps to help me get those pictures. Ben and Ethel
