July 1  Saw “Napoli, Brooklyn” by Meghan Kennedy at the Laura Pels Theatre. It is based upon a real-life disaster, the surprise staging of which, is mind shattering! However, the story line has a surfeit of themes added; religious brain-washing, the effect of a bullying husband and father and lesbian freedom. None of these is fully convincing in spite of the excellent acting of the cast.

Blueish Whale

The American Museum of Natural History is celebrating the tenth anniversary of the  reopening of the Hall of Ocean Life. I went over to have another look at the blue whale model. It’s 94 feet long and hangs in the air, underneath an aquamarine-blue skylight. I have seen it a great many times over the past 40 years and it is still awesome! I tried to pick out the tweaks to its anatomy which the scientists had apparently made to the original but, it looked no different to me. I thought, though, that its colour was much more blue/gray than I seemed to remember.
