July 1  Saw “Napoli, Brooklyn” by Meghan Kennedy at the Laura Pels Theatre. It is based upon a real-life disaster, the surprise staging of which, is mind shattering! However, the story line has a surfeit of themes added; religious brain-washing, the effect of a bullying husband and father and lesbian freedom. None of these is fully convincing in spite of the excellent acting of the cast.

Three Peaks Challenge

Well done Lucy!

Gillian is so proud of her daughter, Lucy’s, accomplishment!. She sent me this note and pictures which I am delighted to post. Here’s what she says about it:

“Ben. Pleased to confirm that Lucy has achieved the 3 Peak challenge with the Group supporting the Charity, “Fighting Blindness”.  She climbed Mount Snowdon on Tuesday, Scafell Pike on Wednesday and finally she reached the top of Ben Nevis at 1 pm today!  She also helped guide blind and partially sighted people on the 3 Peaks too. So proud of her – it is a wonderful achievement! ”  Here! here! (Ben)

Footnote: Such are the ironies of this lottery we call “life”, Gillian tells me that her other daughter, Debby, (Lucy’s sister) was declared legally blind in June!
